The Mostviertel in Austria
Discover our region. The Mostviertel with its hundreds of thousands of fruit trees. The European Iron Trail and its living history. The leisure activities from fly fishing to cycling.
A symbiosis of tradition and innovation ... Follow in the footsteps of the charcoal burners, blacksmiths and lumberjacks who used to characterize the Iron Trail in Austria. This era comes to life again in the World of Iron in Ferrum and Mendlingtal.
Along with the natural and historical offerings, we place a focus on the culinary arts. The Lower Austrian Iron Trail and the heavenly Mostviertel region combine to become a marvelous region of pleasure. The Iron Trail
The European Iron Trail, at the corner where the states of Lower Austria, Upper Austria and Steiermark meet, combines the peaceful and the wild sides of the Mostviertel and is rich on culture, blacksmiths and organic farms. Enjoy a vacation along the Lower Austrian Iron Trail. It stretches along a beautiful landscape – from the gentle hills in the North to the mighty Ötscher and Ybbstaler Alps.
Mostviertel
In the Land of temptations – the Mostviertel's nickname – it is a joy to indulge in the specialties of the region. Rustic perry taverns entice you to spend cozy moments. We, the perry barons, offer you outstanding Mostviertel perries and even schnapps distilled by our grandmother Marianne Scheiblauer. Come try!

Waidhofen an der Ybbs
Waidhofen on the Ybbs is also called the "City of Towers". In the middle ages it was one of the European centers for iron production. Today, Waidhofen is considered the pearl of the Ybb Valley due to its city center.
The Rothschild Castle and the Stadtpfarrkirche (the late gothic parish church), as well as the Bürgerspitalkirche and the Klosterkirche (a monastery church) are especially worth a visit. The city tower with its onion-shaped roof in the center of the upper town square has a special history: In the 16th century, the inhabitants of Waidhofen captured a treasure from Turkish invaders which enabled them to extend the city tower to a 50m and give it a new roof.
In the 5e Museum, which shows the history of the city, you can learn more about the tower – and many other interesting facts about Waidhofen.
Our tip: The night watchman tour through the illuminated town is especially delightful.
Zoo in Haag
The Zoo in Haag, which is open all year, is one of the most beautiful recreation areas in Lower Austria. Over 700 animals and 70 species populate the natural park, which guarantees relaxation, fun and action for young and old!
Fly fishing in Lower Austria
Trout and graylings have a magnificent habitat in the clear water of the Ybbs, which flows over more than 100 km to the Danube.
You can fish along 8.8 km in Waidhofen an der Ybbs – with a spinning rod in some places and a fly rod in others. No matter which you choose, it is a one-of-a-kind nature experience. Slow down and enjoy (fly) fishing in Lower Austria.
A limited number of day and multiple-day passes are available.
